Five Trends That Contribute to Emergence of New Gadgets

New trends in development. What are they?

Just recently Canonical has announced the beginning of Ubuntu Edge smartphone development and started to raise funds for its production. This method of financing – crowdfunding - is one of the five major trends of our time, actively contributing to the emergence of new gadgets.

1. Modular hardware

By this it is meant different boards for developers. All sorts of Arduino, Raspberry Pi and the alike systems are a single board computers, on which base you can build anything. And it encourages developers to create new types of robots and other mechanisms that may be the beginning of some new sphere of human activity.

2. Unity of software and hardware components

Developers who delve into the development of software for mobile devices, forget that electronic side is designed by someone else. The reverse situation is also very real: spending all your time on the "hardware", the developers lose sight of the software component. It is clearly illustrated by Sony and Panasonic - they have excellent hardware, while software is generally poor. So many of today's startups are paying attention to both of these components, creating something more harmonious than what is offered by the major manufacturers.

3. Crowdfunding

This is a relatively new trend, which involves raising money for the production of a useful device. Investors in this case are the consumers who are interested in the proposed gadget. Sites like Kickstarter, which are crowdfunding systems, are highly popular, and they helped to start a business for many successful companies. Crowdfunding eliminates a layer in the face of retailers between the manufacturer and the buyers.

4. Open hardware

It's the same thing as open source, but in this case, the developers are allowed to upgrade the electronic component. It results in improved devices based on those which are commercially available and in invention of alternative use. Open hardware eliminates red tape with patents, licenses and other bureaucracy and unleash developers hands, not limiting their imagination.

5. The constant search for new developers

Many start-ups and already some large companies are constantly looking for new developers to get them interested in new developments. Having access to a large number of talented people who are ready to work, companies can develop new hardware products faster and at lower cost.
